Episode 11: Going for the Oscar

by Lessa

Previously on survivor, we get a recap showing us again how my man James is an idiot. *sigh* We go right back to camp after the recap, directly after Tribal council, and Todd is shocked that it worked, that he’s still there. He knows that had James used the idol he’d have been sent home. There was a final 6 group hug, and Peih-Gee is feeling hopeful - if she can keep Fei-Long turning on each other, she might have a chance!

Todd is miserable, and says he’s not emotional, but is really missing home at this point, as they all huddle in the cave while it rains. Tell me, why have they not worked to get a better shelter?! Todd tells us though that he cant trust anyone, even if he has an alliance, he’ll take out the threat. But he won’t tell them that!

Reward Challenge!
It’s the Relative reward! Teams of two, one with blindfolded, and they’ll have to listen to the partner to get them through the maze to the center. No warning, Jeff says “Erik you’ll be partnered with your mom” Cue the sappy reunion music where everyone cries and Amanda’s sister is there, Amanda apologizes for stinking. Peih-Gee’s dad is there, Todd’s sister Brandy is there, and gets a huge hug from her bro. And he finds out their other sister has miscarried. He’s in tears, and Courtney is rolling her eyes (Shock) but then is in tears as her Daddy shows up and (GOOD LORD SHES SO SKINNY), and we get to finally meet Denise’s hubby, who’s a big ole boy named Robert. She asks him “can I have your socks?” And she almost drags him over there…

Jeff explains the challenge, and they’re playing for a boat trip, a meal and a phone call home. Courtney apologizes to her daddy, who’s all but in a suit. L Everyone is blindfolded, and working their way toward the center to the platform. Amanda and her sister use bird sounds, Denise and hubby are working really way. Denise and Robert find each other first, connect and work together really well. Peih-Gee finds her dad, he’s trying to point her toward the way. Jeff says “Courtney is still looking for her Father” and Courtney shoots back “Shut it, Probst!”

Denise and Robert work REALLY well together and win reward! YAY! She gets to choose two other survivors to go along with her on the reward - she chooses Todd and Brandy first, and she chooses Amanda and her sister as well, and clearly she hates to have to choose.
The others say goodbye with tears and Eriks mom tells him not to lose anymore weight. Heh. Peih-Gee, Erik and Courtney head back to camp. The loved ones remaining find out they also get to come back and spend the night at camp, which has Denise laughing - she’s so happy!

The loved ones, Denise, Todd and Amanda get to the boat and are thrilled to see pizza, and Denise is so proud of her hubby, because he’s afraid to fly and he was there for her and to help her win. Then Amanda goes NUTS when she sees chocolate cake. Like screaming-ly nuts.

The phone rings, and Denise says hello and hears crying in the background and it’s her oldest daughter, and Denise says “daddy’s here with me and I smell so bad…” She’s such an awesome mom.

Back at camp, Peih-gee is actually pissed because Denise didn’t pick her when she took her last time. Todd and Courtney are being snarky and saying the miscarriage is awfully convenient, and she tells us that he’s going for the Oscar and pulling a Fairplay, and if that poor girl did miscarry, Courtney is a huge ass bitch, and really lost me there. If Todd pulled a Fairplay with that story? I may have to hate him too.

The boat returns, and Amanda and Todd brings back chocolate cake on their hands for the others to lick off - erm, ew. But they do. Haha. Robert lays down with Denise, Amanda shares the Butt Blur Antics with her sister - clearly that runs in the family! In the water, Todd and his sister talk about the miscarriage, while Peih-Gee is in the weeds bitching at us that “I took her why she no take me?!” Shut up whiner! GOSH.

Todd and Amanda and their sisters talk - first they tell him that people think he pulled a Fairplay, and he defends himself, and then they talk strategy, and about how Denise is out at F4, that’s the current plan, a good plan, because they know they can’t win against Denise because they’ve too many enemies.

The next morning, the boat arrives to take the loved ones home, and Denise and Robert and hugging and hugging tight and being all sweet and Robert finally laughs and says “god you smell so bad” and she laughs too. Todd and Amanda say their goodbyes, and Todd says it was hard to say goodbye, but he knows the Game goes on.

Peih-Gee tells Denise that she was mad, and she says she knows she was upset, but she felt nervous. She says Amanda was doing badly, and Peih-Gee was ‘if she’s playing the sympathy card, maybe I should start.” Bitch, bitch, bitch, whine, whine, whine! Ugh.

Immunity Challenge!
Time to dig deep, as the challenge is physical and mental. It’s the obstacle course where they’re attached to a rope and have to go over under and around poles. There will be three boxes, with a true and a false statement - they have to choose a key (the true answer) and carry it back to the start to open the lock. If it is the wrong key, they go back, open three locks, raise the flag, win Immunity.

Todd is the first up the ‘mountain’ and Erik is snagged. Todd and Amanda are in the lead, Todd is first to the first box, and Todd decides first, and they’re off to the first lock back at the start, Peih-Gee is coming in 3rd. Todd and Amanda both have one lock undone, Erik is trying to get back in it, Courtney not far behind, Todd and Amanda are leading the pack - Todd just a bit ahead Erik’s first key is the WRONG ONE - he’s now dead last…

Todd opens his second lock, and Amanda made a mistake, and her second key is wrong! Todd has a huge lead, Peih-Gee is right behind, it’s his to lose, he makes a mistake it’ll be all over!

Todd makes his choice, grabs the key and heads back, Peih-Gee is right on his tail. Todd goes to open his lock and it does not open! Peih-Gee is all but falling over, as she climbs up, and her lock opens - Peih-Gee wins Immunity!!

Immunity.jpg

Everyone is WIPED out, and hardly able to stand while they catch their breath. It’s back to camp to await Tribal council.

Back at camp, Peih-Gee is still crying about winning because she’s been the underdog the whole way, and she makes rice for everyone and tells us that it’s the proudest moment of her life, but is still mentally and physically exhausting. Todd checks in with Denise and Courtney and is pretty sure it’s obvious that Erik needs to go, if they go anywhere close to the final three they win and he knows it. Meanwhile Erik and Amanda are out on the boat, and talking about the Fairplay possibility again, and no one trusts Todd and he’s trying to sway Amanda to his side. Peih-Gee is voting for Todd, of course. Erik is gonna talk to Denise and see if she’ll swing for Todd.

They talk to Denise, and explains if Peih-Gee wins immunity next time, Denise will get booted. Denise knows she’s stuck between a rock and a hard place. Todd asks Amanda and Courtney if he should be worried, and they say no. Denise knows this could be a turning point, and it’s 50-50 either way, and she doesn’t know. Todd reminds Denise that he’s had her back, he knows she has his, and apologizes to Peih-Gee that he has to vote out her buddy. Todd assures Denise that he trusts her. She still doesn’t know what she’s gonna do, and asks the heaven above for help, her mind is racing, and cue lightening. Hahah! Brilliant editing there, guys!

Tribal Council!
The members of the jury come in, and there’s mah boy James! And he gives Todd a death glare. Awesome. Haha. They talk about the reward challenge, and Amanda says she knows Denise in a different way now, that she has a softer side when it comes to her family. Denise admits that it’s a two-way street, for them to see how good her life is. She doesn’t know if it’d be bad if she faces a jury, because she does have a nice one.

Jeff asks Peih-Gee what she thinks will happen, because she and Erik have been supposed to be voted out for several Councils now, she says that there is some possibility things could end up with them remaining and Denise admits she’s scared with the talk of votes being up in the air, but she hopes she can trust people. Todd says he does trust people here, and he has too because he’s not wearing the Immunity necklace, but doesn’t know how much. Erik says he’s done everything he can to crack the remaining four, and hopes people realize that it could be 3-3 instead of 4-2.

And with that, it’s time to Vote.
Denise votes - we don’t see it, but she says “I’m sorry I have to do this, it’s probably the biggest mistake I’ll make in the game.” Hmmm….

Eriktorch.jpgThe Votes: Erik, Todd, Todd, Erik, Erik, and the 11th person voted out of Survivor: China, Erik.

Todd breathes a huge sigh of relief, and Denise still looks unsure, as Erik walks off into the darkness. Jeff says they all battle the same question, do I take the most deserving and beat the best, or someone I think I can beat. It’s the million-dollar question.

Next time on Survivor: Amanda targets Todd, but Todd fights back. As alliances crumble, no one is safe!

So - do you think Denise just wrote herself out of the game? What would you have done? Who do you think is out next? Do tell!

    I still miss James….
I guess I’m just pulling for Denise right now. If Denise wins a few KEY immunity challenges, she may have won herself the game. She’s pretty humble about it all … a ‘la Tina from Survivor Australia .
