Hello! I’m still a person! Episode 12

by Lessa

We rejoin Hae Da Fung on night 22, as the final five get back to camp, and Denise decided to play it safe and vote out Erik, but thinks she might have made a mistake in the game. The next morning, Peih-Gee says he’s probably not the most popular person there and it’s hard to feel like an outsider. Awwwwwww. She brings back tree mail, and wakes up everyone else. There’s arrows, and while she reads, Courtney gives Todd a kiss on the cheek, and they listen to the mail, and we head direct to the challenge where Todd hopes he’s skilled and popular.

Reward!
They will each fire arrows from a replica of a 4th century of a Chinese repeating crossbow. Each time you or someone else hits your name on the board you score a point. You begin with 5 arrows. They divvy up the arrows in secret to the other survivors. Whoever’s name gets hit the most times, wins reward. The reward? They’ll be flown by private jet to the Great Wall of China, where they’ll eat and spend the night.

Peih-Gee gets one arrow. Commence whining and sulking. Todd gets 6, Denise has 2, Courtney has 12 arrows and Amanda has 4. Yeesh!

Peih-Gee misses the board completely.
Denise misses the first one, then hits her own name for 1 point.
Amanda misses, hits Denise, hits Denise again, and misses the last one. Denise has 3 points.
Todd hits his own name once, twice, three times, four, five, and finally misses his last shot - DAYUM that was some fine shootin! Even Jeff is impressed. Todd grins and says it’s secretly a hobby of his with a laugh.
Courtney has 12 arrows - she misses, hits her name, Denise, Amanda, misses, Todd, Denise, Denise, Todd, misses, Denise, and Denise - giving Denise the reward!

Denise gets to pick one person to go with her, and obviously chooses Courtney who gave it to her, and then gets to choose another and Peih-Gee starts begging, and she picks Todd instead. Peih-Gee starts bitching about how much she did for Denise, and she’s getting left out and it’s tough (Poor Denise is almost in tears as she says she’s sorry) and Amanda is disappointed too, but what can ya do?

WHINE PATROL. Oy.

Back at camp, Peih-Gee is pissed, and knows she said things she shouldn’t have and AGAIN tells us how she picked Denise and why didn’t she return the favor, and she heard Denise say she didn’t want Peih-Gee to get stronger and it’s like “hello I’m still a person!”

Amanda is teary, having to do all the work. She is having a hard time being left out of the reward. She confronts Peih-Gee and says she feels like she is always being attacked at Tribal, and Amanda wants to get it out in the open. Peih-Gee tells us that she respects her for speaking her mind, and is glad they got to sit down and talk. They find Asian Pears and limes, and are excited to eat - which of course is when we flip to the private jet.

Denise feels bad, but they know that Amanda feels comfortable with them, and Todd’s glad to be chosen. He does a little flight attendant welcome, as Denise opens the champagne. The wall is GORGEOUS. Denise is awed, and you get the feeling again that she truly appreciates the reward. They’re greated, shown their beds, and a table that’s FULL of food. They’re a little confused, because it was all raw, and the little Chinese guy demonstrates and they end up with a huge pot of food. He’s surprised at how quickly he gets full.

Courtney confesses that choosing Todd was better strategically because Amanda is far less likely to get into trouble back at camp with Peih-Gee, and an Angry Todd is a Bad Todd.

Back at camp, Amanda and Peih-Gee celebrate catching a ton of fish - and they feel fabulous, they even pour the rest of the wine into the rice, and create a little feast for themselves. That night they discuss how Denise is a bit of a puppet for everyone, and Amanda gives Peih-Gee a bit more on the dynamics of the Tribe. This, of course, gives Peih-Gee hope. Heh.

Back at the Wall, Todd brings up the awful question - if Peih-Gee wins Immunity, what do they do? Fight between the four, or kick Amanda. Denise is scared, because Todd has alliances with everyone and is shifty, yet she still goes to sleep and leaves Todd and Courtney to talk more. That could be bad… especially as Todd jokes with Courtney “We know we’re catty! Might as well go to the end together!”

The three arrive back at camp the next morning, to find Amanda and Peih-Gee missing. Todd of course is concerned, and Courtney asks if it’s extreme Survivor Paranoia. They were at the well, of course, and so they give them a rundown on what they did. Peih-Gee was rolling eyes because they were complaining about the food. Even Amanda was annoyed that Courtney still found things to complain about when she won a reward. “People are so ungrateful!” Denise tells Amanda that Todd ate all the sandwiches on the plane and Denise was upset that they didn’t bring it all back, but Denise brought her some nuts and stuff - Amanda is pissed, but assures Denise she has her back.

Day 36, and it’s time for Immunity. The Treemail gives the clue that it’s a repeat of previous challenges. Amanda knows that Todd is backstabbing and working his way through the group, and would do the same to her - she admits if he doesn’t win immunity, that she may have to think of getting rid of him first.

Immunity.jpg

Immunity Challenge!
Four rounds - 1st, each will throw stars at the targets. 4 highest scores move on. 2nd - they each have to eat 1 baluet. First 3 to get it down move on (poor Denise!). 3rd - bounce the ball on the drum through the obstacles. First 2 to finish move on to the final round. That round, use a sword to cut through the rope and free the disks, solve the puzzle winner gets Immunity.

Round 1: Peih-Gee gets 2. Denise gets 6, Amanda gets 3, Courtney gets 2, Todd gets 1 and is OUT. Everyone else moves on.

Round 2: Denise still can’t do it. Amanda is done first, Peih-Gee 2nd, and Denise is encouraging Courtney, and Jeff goads Denise a bit for quitting as Courtney finishes hers. Denise is out.

Round 3: Bouncy Ball, Peih-Gee and Courtney both have to go back to the start, Amanda does really well, Amanda finishes first, Peih-Gee second, and Courtney is out.

Round 4: It’s between Peih-Gee and Amanda to cut the puzzle pieces free, Amanda is just barely ahead of Peih-Gee as they cut them through and getting to work on the puzzle. Amanda getting encouragement from Denise, Peih-Gee is “getting no love” as she works in silence. Amanda has three before Peih-Gee gets her first - Amanda gets stuck on her 5th piece, and Peih-Gee starts to catch up, but then Amanda finds her 5th, her 6th, and Amanda wins Immunity!

(Ooooooooh is she really going to turn on Todd?)

Back at camp, everyone congratulates Amanda, and even Peih-Gee just before she bemoans her coming so close. She thinks she has a chance though, to turn Amanda toward her. Amanda is stoked, because she has the power, and she’s excited to have a guarantee final four spot. They discover there’s barely any rice left, and Todd makes a comment about them having gone to town on it while they were gone (Smooth move, idiot!) and irritates Amanda.

Amanda and Denise talk about how Todd is the most untrusting person there. She tells us she’s been dancing around the idea of getting rid of Todd, and she might decide to keep Peih-Gee. Peih-Gee starts talking and telling Denise that she played honorable and stuff. Denise knows though she’d have a better chance winning against Todd. Peih-Gee is pushing for a three girl final three - herself, Amanda and Denise.

Todd asks Courtney if she’s lobbying at all, and Courtney says no. Todd admits to paranoia seeing as his name was written down twice last week, but he knows his alliance was the right one. Peih-Gee is a fighter. If they convince them to get rid of Todd he’d be pissed, but big ups to them if they figure out a way to get rid of him.

Tribal Council!
They talk about the reward challenge - Denise says it was a tough decision. She knew she had to pick Courtney, as she needed the food. Courtney said the food was a little confusing, and found it frustrating, but she’s “negative Nancy - I wanted Pizza” Peih-Gee is frustrated, because she’s a positive person (at which point I rolled my eyes as much as Courtney, because really, Peih-Gee? Positive? That’s exactly what I was thinking she was when she started her whinefest and complaining…) and she’d have loved to go.

Amanda says that she respects Peih-Gee, and he asks her if the four people left will be the most deserving after the vote. She says you’re only the most deserving if you played the game your hardest and most honorably. Todd says he knows he has pissed the most people off - if it’s a million dollars on the line, at this stage it’s about “who can I beat, not who can kick my ass.”

TribalCouncil.jpg

Time to Vote!
The Votes: Peih-Gee, Todd, Peih-Gee, Peih-Gee is the 12 person voted out and the 6th jury member. Todd is grinningly happy, and Peih-Gee walks off without looking back.

Jeff ends the episode with: There’s only 3 days left, but a lot to contend with: Challenges, strategy, and ultimately the Jury. Should make for a fun finish - Goodnight!

Next time:
Four Survivor’s left: The Lunch-Lady, The Long Shot, The Schemer, and the Chameleon. 3 tribal councils, 2 full hours, 1 ultimate survivor - Who will it be? Will Amanda blindside Todd? Who will be the first to turn on the others? Don’t miss the finale and reunion show on Sunday!!

[...] Survivor: China- “A Slippery Sucker” by Christopher Gabel Welcome to the two (scratch that, three) longest hours of my life. Luckily production decided to spend the first ten minutes recapping the season for all those potential viewers that have never seen an episode of Survivor, but may have decided to tune in for a finale of a series they haven’t seen a single episode of. It’s really an untapped market, not entirely hypothetical. So, we’ll give it a few before they’re done with rehashing and credits. In the meanwhile, we mailed in, or rather delivered a possible completely inaccurate recap of the last episode, so here’s a more comprehensive recap. [...]
