Pirate Masters: Ep 2 Recap!

After a FOUR MINUTE recap of the first episode and the premise of the show, we finally get a glimpse of the c
The next morning, the Bosun, Jay is given the command by Captain Joe Don to set sail, and they start off by Hoisting the Pirate Flag, and everyone jumps into work with gusto, as the sails are filled with air and Kendra says it’s stunning - and she wises she could stay out there forever. Azmyth is a jolly pirate, wanting to look out for his crew, though he’s his own first priority.
Sean, the cook, sets up for breakfast, and everyone gets a spoonful or two of Gruel. People find hair in it too - which is gross. The whiner, Alexis, tries to get some potatoes, eggs and bacon and rum to drink, but is told no, she got Gruel while the captain eats the good stuff. Christian is upset as it divides the crew and he’d make sure everyone ate well.
Time to swab the deck! Life on the Picton Castle is no easy task - Louie says it’s nothing but work… if you’re a crew member. Jay, the Bosun, is even a bit annoyed as they work and Joe Don gets fat and does nothing.
The pirates are called to the Quarter Deck, and Captain Joe Don is given the key, and has Kendra open it. Apparently he won’t even work THAT much. They are divided again into teams. The Captain and his first mates will lead the black crew, and the others will be randomly divided to work with him or be on the red crew. If the Red Crew wins - a new captain will be chosen. They pick colored marbles again, and divide up, with the Captain’s team getting the extra member.
Black Crew: Joe Don, Nessa Cheryl, Ben Azmyth, Louie, Christa and Jupiter
Red Crew: Sean, joy, Kendra, Christian, Alexis, Laurel and Jay.
They’re given the maps, moved to the side of the ship and prepare to jump - on Cameron Daddo’s pistol shot, they all jump in. The have to swim, hike, then enter the jungle, where they can sabotage the other crew, before a grueling run up a hill to a snake pit.
(AUGH!! OMG - AUGH! Mark Burnett and I are gonna have to have a little talk! TOO MANY REPTILES!)
Kendra, not a strong swimmer, was helped and saved by Alexis who was not happy about having to help “little miss water wings”. As a result, the black crew gets there first. Azmyth finds the trail, and they are off into the jungle, where they sabotage the other team. with a mess of tangled thorny vines they’ll have to fight through just as the Red Crew makes it to the beach.
The black crew fights up the hill, and finds the pit, and holymoly a whole buncha snakes. They try to decide who’s going into the pit to find the chest with the key by the base of the tree inside. Even cutie first mate Ben was more then a little apprehensive.
(Me? id’a been OUT of there. My regular readers know I just don’t handle reptiles well and Burnett seems to LOVE them. EW. I’m beginning to take it personal!)
The Red team still struggles, and Christian, big and strong was still struggling as he wasn’t very fast.
Black Crew Nessa takes the lead, and climbs down, asking everyone to watch for the snakes for her. She goes because even the Captain was just STANDING there, and she always wanted to be a pirate so some snakes were not gonna stop her! They watch her back as she moves through and Azmyth joins her and then rocks it all as he finds the Compass plate and they get the hell out of the pit.
Red Crew Joy is having problems with her knee after a fall busted it up and she’s carried up the hill. She is set down not too long after in order to make her own way, as they struggle to keep up.
The Black Crew searches for an alter where they have to put the campus plate and Azmyth rocks it again and finds it, and uses the spoon and plate to find which direction the treasure would buried. Joe Don tries to take the lead, but Azmyth is searching a bit on his own. The Red Team sees them still working, and doesn’t waste any time jumping into the pit to find their compass plate.

The Black Crew is kicking the leaves and searching, and Azmyth saves the day, and finds the chest! He rocked this treasure hunt for sure. Of course, that might not be good, considering what happened to John last week… all depends on how he handles the win, hm?
Back at the Picton Castle, the red team goes back down to the crew quarters and rest, while the Black Crew is congratulated, and get to pour our the coins and count it down. $45k! And Joe Don gets half of it to do with as he pleases. He also gets to choose to keep or choose two new officers. He keeps Cheryl and Ben, as well as his share of the loot.
Louis wants to see them all go adrift. The rest of the Black Crew gets about $2,200 each. Downstairs, there’s a bit of grumbling downstairs about the money, and laughter about Jay messing with his food. In the captains quarters, joe Don is happy with his take, and the fact he has enough to pay off his credit cards. Joe Don is oh so generous and throws the Red Crew a whole $200 a piece, and expects them to be happy.
They’re not.
He then calls Jay in, and offers him $2000 to buy information on the crew. He swears it’s not a bribe, but that’s exactly what it is, and Jay confides in us that he’ll be the paid off man - until it’s no longer lucrative. You don’t have to be a winner of every challenge to be a good pirate, you just have to get the money in your bag!
And with that, it’s time to decide who’s going to be chosen with the black spot. They decide to put three different people who were reasons for the expeditions being lost, so that the crew feels they have a bit more control in their fate. Or something. The First Mates pass out the letters, and Joy, Christian, and Kendra were marked for purely physical reasons as they are considered the weakest links in the team as a whole.
Christian is confident, but Joy is worried and Kendra is a little confused as to why she was chosen. Jay starts working the crowd and starts working to control the vote. He wants to keep Kendra as someone whose vote can be easily swayed. The others, he doesn’t really care.
Louie makes the rounds as well and starts the crew talking Mutiny. He plants the seeds, and hopes that he’s got the numbers to do so. They’re not happy with his living the high life, and tossing scraps to the rest of the Crew. Christian is all for it, naturally, but others are a little more skittish.
Pirates Court is now in session.
Joe Don explains how he had picked them all for physical reasons - Kendra’s lack of swimming skills, Joy for her injury and having to be carried, and Christian because he is strong, but his size was making it difficult for him to keep up with the challenges.
Then the Marked Three were given the chance to plead their cases. Kendra admits that she was slow in the water, but asks that they weigh it against the fact that once she got to land, she didn’t stop, didn’t give up. Joy knows she stands before them because of her injury to her knee, but shows it without a bandage and says that it may have been busted up then, but ain’t now. She did everything else after the challenge without complaint.
Then it’s Christian’s turn to defend himself. He professes his love for the crew and the ship, and that many are complaining about the portions of food and money and promises to make his crew happy if he were chosen as captain. Joe Don decides not to fight with him, but on his turn says he knows the crew and that he thinks they’re happy. Louis is up front and says that he wants to get paid more. He has $4400 and Joe Don is sitting there with over 40k.
Joe Don straight up says “It’s less then that. I shared some with my Bolsun.” Jay is pissed that he gave up that information, and the rest of the crew looks shocked. He only admits only to $1,000 instead of $2k, and then the $200 along with the rest of the crew. Alex admit to being frustrated with the scraps they were given. And with that, it’s time to vote.
(Cue the Drums and Dramatic Music! I love that!)
To Mutiny, it must be unanimous. Cameron Daddo looks over the ballots, and once again, there are no Mutiny ballots cast - not even Louie. I’m beginning to wonder about him and all his big talk! Joy receives no votes. Kendra has four votes…
Next time on Pirate Master: Louie is out for revenge against Joe Don. Jay uses his money to take control, and a dangerous sabatoge brings one crew down.
- And sure, the show is still campy and overly dramatic? But man - I love it! Except for the snakes. Seriously, can we quit with the snakes already?!? PLEASE??
